Curriculum

The STEAMaster Curriculum is an adaptive curriculum that can be scaled across every subject area or to a few subject specific lessons. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for writing their own raps and poems to demonstrate mastery of the content. There are five lessons in the curriculum with resources that are made available upon registering your students for the STEAMaster Competition. However, you can preview the five parts below.

1. Knowledge
Acquisition

The initial step is to teach the curriculum material your students are expected to demonstrate mastery over.

2. Hip-Hop
History

This lesson elicits students hip-hop background and relationship, then provides additional understanding on hip-hop history and its evolution. 

3. Analyze
Examples

Students decipher song lyrics that communication science concepts and examine how literary devices are used to accentuate a meaning.

4. Writing
Rhymes 101

Students learn the elements of a traditional rhyme scheme they can use to write and recite their own raps/poems. 

5. Writing Lab

Each student develops a rap verse or poem according to the grading rubric provided. The classroom preliminaries then determine the groups who will be in the local STEAMaster competition.
